The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any prominent awards ceremony draws close, there’s always an outcry for the addition additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and fill the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand remains most pressing above others. This is the request: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories actually cover numerous genres, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything in 2014
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences in the world and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait generations.
